Edit Policies

The Edit Policies screen is used to finalize policy details before they are committed to the database during the Create Policies workflow. It supports both single-record editing and bulk updates across groups of pending policies.

πŸ’‘ Why Use This

Use Edit Policies when:

  • Data from the carrier file is incomplete β€” Fill in required fields (such as Policy Type or Primary Agent) that couldn't be mapped automatically.
  • You need to correct mapped values β€” Override mapped data before the policies are created.
  • Applying the same value to many policies at once β€” Select multiple rows and edit them in bulk to avoid repetitive data entry.

πŸ—ΊοΈ How to Access

The Edit Policies screen is accessed from the Create Policies upper grid:

  1. Individual Edit β€” Double-click any single row.
  2. Bulk Edit β€” Select multiple rows using CTRL+Click or SHIFT+Click, then click Edit Policies (F2) in the toolbar.

Example: Bulk Editing Policy Type

To set 10 policies to the "Dental" Policy Type simultaneously: select all 10 rows in the grid, click Edit Policies, choose "Dental" from the dropdown, and click Save.

Managing Data Fields

All fields mapped during the Mapping Data phase are pre-populated. To fill in missing data or override existing values:

  • Type-to-Search β€” Begin typing in any dropdown field and the system will suggest matching records.
  • Create New β€” If you type a value that doesn't exist, the field highlights in Green, indicating a new record (Carrier, Agent, etc.) will be created when the policy is finalized.
  • Dropdown Selection β€” Click the arrow to browse the full list of available values.

Important Rules

  • Mapping Protection β€” Fields that were automatically mapped by system logic are locked and cannot be edited manually, preserving data integrity.
  • Carrier Commission Tables β€” If you create a new Carrier Commission Table through this screen, you must also select a Carrier Table Type to define the commission structure.
  • Green Highlights β€” Values shown in green are temporary until the policy is officially created. They are added to your permanent system lists only after creation is confirmed.
  • The Reset Button β€” Use the Reset button on the upper grid with caution. It clears all manual edits made during the current session.

πŸ”§ Troubleshooting

Bulk edits didn't apply after saving. Confirm you clicked Save rather than navigating away with the Next button. Clicking Next skips the current record without saving. Only Save and Save Next commit your changes.

A field I need to edit is grayed out and cannot be changed. That field was set by the system's matching logic and is locked to protect data integrity. If the value is incorrect, you may need to correct the underlying mapping or the original carrier file before re-importing.

A dropdown field shows a green highlight after I selected a value. The value you selected or typed does not match any existing record in the database. The system will create a new record (Agent, Carrier, etc.) when you save. If you intended to select an existing record, try typing more characters to narrow the search results.
